Letter from Mom

Hi Mcclain, I am in Texas with ella, she has regionals tonight. I wanted to send you a note because I was thinking about you. I am so proud of you for going on a mission and teaching the gospel to the people in Costa Rica and California. These people have needed you so badly and you are helping them so much! You are helping them by giving them a clear path the follow and you are changing their lives. I am so proud of the young man you are and for your example to me. You are an incredible and I hope you never forget that. I remember hearing in conference a bit ago that the lord likes effort and I know that you are putting in all your efforts with your companions, your zones, your districts and the people you serve. You are a leader for the other missionaries and for the people of Costa Rica. This week I have been learning how to be more humble. I have been thinking a lot about how I can be more teachable and how I can be more kind and understanding. You would think after 49 ye...

Week 14

The Rain has returned. 😔 Good news this time around is my umbrella is way better now. Back in Ciudad Quesada, where it rained daily, I bought an umbrella that didn't fold up because it was way bigger. Although it worked a little bit, it looked a massive sword and didn't fit in by backpack. Probably looked somewhere between a medieval reenactment character and policeman. However I have upgraded big time. New umbrella folds up, fits in the backpack, and only has a few small holes... Pura Vida. Week was awesome here. For those who have served around me on the mission this won't come as surprise, but this week we pretty much just did normal door to door missionary work - and found a ton of new people to teach. Just works really well here in Guanacaste. Even saw a monkey in the trees next to a house we visited. Companion and I decided to make Gallo Pinto, which is really just rice and beans mixed together, but now we feel a bit extra Tico. Had one man tell us he was d...

Week 13

Happy Monday! Hope all had a great week and were able to enjoy general conference this weekend. Things were awesome out here. Was a bit worried to start off the week that we would be doing some of the cleanup work to get back on our feet, but everything turned around quickly and saw some big success. Monday we traveled down to the capital for a conference at the office. The bus ride down is about 2 hours to the Liberia, then from Liberia to San Jose about 5 more. But fun to get to talk with a few of the other elders and sisters from the zone. Also caught a few minutes of the Joseph Smith movie. I am far enough into the mission at this point that the Joseph Smith movie stacks right up next to Creed II in my book of favorites. Made it back home on Wednesday and hit the ground running. The apartment pet (a rat) set up camp the 2 days we were gone. Bought a trap and dropped a whole bag of the poison right on top. Seen it once since then. Trap still empty. One more cockroach, rat or cr...
