Week 4
This week was wild.
We started off the week finding a bunch of new people to share the gospel with, and the work in our area has really been progressing. Right now the culture in the mission is about like this - we stay inside and call because people are "scared" of covid. However it is really just because the pandemic has been going on so long that missionaries have really started to enjoy working from the chapel. Working hard, but mostly just over the phone. In my time as a missionary, I have seen a lot more success interacting with people face to face. So when I got here we have really switched things up. Took a while to get our feet on the ground, but this week we finally began teaching most of our lessons in person again, which was awesome.
People live in such diverse types of housing here, most are tin roofed apartments squished on top, under and in-between one another. Being in people's homes is awesome, great to bring the spirit and focus to our teaching, and also great to get to see the culture. So the start of the week was solid.
Then we had exchanges, elder Corbin and I were here in our area in San Martin. We taught a lesson in a bus stop in the pouring rain then tracked thru the rain to his apartment. Got thoroughly soaked then headed off to our next lesson.
Traveled all around costa Rica this week to go to the other elders apartment down in San Ramon. The drive is gorgeous. Looks like Colorado mountains with a jungle them and a lot of little farms.
Then got to baptized Yorleny and her daughter Alexandra on Saturday! Such a special moment.
On Sunday after church we headed out the fortuna for a lesson. When you think of cosfa Rican ziplined, valconaoes, rivers, rooe bridges, its in the fortuna. Turns out, the lesson was actually about 5 KM from the fortuna. The bus took us about half the way, then we had to walk. Then the rain came. So there we were again in the rain, walking thru the Costa Rican countryside, getting soaked, on the way to our lesson. It was unforgettable for so many reasons. Taught a powerful lesson to delvin, then they ordered us a taxi back to the fortuna. The taxi ride was like a Rollercoaster. Skidding out on the road that had turned into a river. Horrifying haha.
But we made it back in one person.
Really a crazy day. So proud to be here serving the savior.
